Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) Denton is a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in November 2002 by Stacey Schumacher, headquartered at 713 Sunset St, Denton, TX 76201. TCAP is the original and flagship location of a network that has grown to eight standalone clinics across North Texas (Allen, Arlington, Denton, Fort Worth, Garland, Hurst, Joshua, and Weatherford). TCAP's mission is to end pet overpopulation and euthanasia in North Texas shelters by providing high-quality, affordable preventative veterinary care. TCAP's prices are, on average, 70% less than traditional veterinary clinics. TCAP contracts licensed veterinarians with extensive surgical experience. Services at the Denton clinic include low-cost spay and neuter surgeries (by appointment, starting at $35), walk-in vaccinations (including rabies for $5), microchipping, deworming, flea/tick prevention, heartworm testing and prevention, and dental cleanings. Spay/neuter is available for pets weighing 2–80 lbs, at least 10 weeks old and under 5 years of age. TCAP also offers a Feral Fix program — 12 free feral cat sterilizations per clinic per operational day. TCAP does not provide sick/injured pet care or X-rays; it focuses solely on preventative services. In 2007, TCAP was named the 'most innovative approach to animal welfare in the nation' by the Humane Society of the United States.
