Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital (MVC Teaching Hospital) is India's largest and oldest veterinary teaching hospital, located at Vepery High Road, Chennai – 600007, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1903, it is a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS). The Department of Clinics, established in 1977, handles over 1,00,000 cases annually. The hospital serves large animals (cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, horses) and small animals (dogs, cats, birds, exotics). It is the only veterinary hospital in South East Asia to offer such a comprehensive range of services including: Large Animal Medicine, Surgery, and Gynaecology & Obstetrics; Small Animal Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics; Emergency & Critical Care Unit (round the clock); Radiology (digital), Ultrasonography, Doppler Ultrasound, CT Scan, Echocardiogram, Video Endoscopy, Laparoscopy; Orthopaedic surgery; Ophthalmology (including cataract surgery for animals); Oncology; Dermatology; Haemodialysis (small animals); Hydrotherapy; Arthroscopy; C-Arm facility; Large Animal Gastroenterology unit for ruminant digestive disorders; Centralized Clinical Laboratory (blood, urine, faecal, skin, cytology); In-patient wards for both large and small animals including sling and sand beds for recumbent large animals; Mobile Veterinary Clinic and Ambulance service; Free Rabies Vaccination; Pharmacy (medicines dispensed FREE OF COST to all patients). The hospital receives referral cases from all over India and provides externship training to veterinary students from Michigan State University, Virginia Tech (USA), University of Munich (Germany), Murdoch University (Australia), and other international institutions.
