Established in 1970 under Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), the institute became a constituent college of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur in 2000. The institute offers M.V.Sc. programs in 11 disciplines and Ph.D. in 8 disciplines, and from 2024-25 also offers B.V.Sc. & A.H. undergraduate programs. It has a well-equipped Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC/Hospital), Poultry Farm, Purnathadi Buffalo Instructional Unit, and a Deccani Sheep and Berari Goat Research Centre at CBF Borgaon Manju.
