Spicewood Springs Animal Hospital is a 100% locally owned, AAHA-accredited full-service veterinary hospital originally founded on October 26, 1970 by Dr. James Hughes, located at 4606 Spicewood Springs Road, Northwest Austin, TX 78759. Dr. Barak Benaryeh DVM, DABVP purchased the hospital in January 2005 and has been the owner since. Dr. Benaryeh graduated from the University of California Davis (UC Davis) School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997, completed a small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency internship at the University of Pennsylvania, and practiced at a 24-hour critical care and emergency hospital in Boston for seven years before moving to Austin in 2004. He is board certified in canine and feline practice (DABVP) and has been a faculty member and educator at Tufts University and Texas A&M University. He is a regular contributor to Clinician's Brief Veterinary Journal and speaks at national veterinary conferences on aging dog care and veterinary skills. The hospital provides full-service veterinary care for dogs and cats including wellness, diagnostics, surgery, emergency care, dentistry, and boarding. A unique specialty is minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery performed through a single port, offering less post-operative pain and faster recovery. Sister facility Spicewood Springs Cat Hospital (8108 Mesa Dr., Suite B105, Austin, TX 78759) operates as a separate cat-only clinic under the same ownership, certified as a Gold member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
