Allen Veterinary Hospital is a full-service small animal veterinary practice located at 851 E Main St Suite A, Allen, TX 75002. Founded in January 1986 by Dr. Mike Overton, the hospital has been a trusted part of the Allen, Texas community for over 38 years. In 2010, Dr. Alan Coffman, DVM — a 16-year employee of the practice — took ownership upon Dr. Overton's retirement, continuing its legacy of exceptional pet care. The hospital has grown to include five full-time veterinarians, one consultant veterinarian, and a team of over 30 staff members. Allen Veterinary Hospital has proudly earned the People's Choice Award for Best Veterinary Practice in Collin County for eight consecutive years, with two additional years as first runner-up. Dr. Coffman was also honored with the W.R. Bilderback, DVM Award by the Texas Animal Control Association for outstanding contributions to animal control in Texas. The hospital supports the Allen Eagles High School and the Allen Americans Hockey Team. Dr. Alan Coffman earned his B.S. in Animal Science from Brigham Young University (1998) and his DVM from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Additional veterinarians on staff include Dr. J. Brian Shiplov, DVM (LSU, 2005), Dr. Hailey Swager, DVM (University of Illinois, 2022), and Dr. Chung-Hsuan Yu, DVM (Tuskegee, 2013). Services offered include new puppy and kitten exams, geriatric evaluations, yearly examinations with immunizations, small animal medicine and surgery, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, dental care, radiology, in-house laboratory, and pet boarding. Pets seen include dogs, cats, rabbits, pocket pets, and birds (select vets). The clinic features 14 exam rooms, a spacious waiting area, and ample parking. An online pharmacy is available via Vets First Choice. Emergency after-hours care is referred to Emergency Animal Clinic of Collin County at 10225 Custer Rd, Plano, TX (214) 547-9900.
